![]() The NC500 Billed as a great road trip, but viewed with mixed feelings by many local people. Find out why, and what and how you, as a visitor, can help. The route is closed for the duration of the COVID-19 shut-down. |
Durness is 74 miles from Dornoch and 103 miles from Inverness. The last 52 miles of both journeys are a spectacular drive along single-track roads.
Always pull into a passing place to allow traffic that comes up behind you to pass and be aware there may be a vehicle round the next corner, and no room for both of you. Be prepared to stop, frequently! The drive from Inverness takes at least 2.5 hours. A bus service (see below) to Durness links in with train services arriving at Lairg. (not during the COVID-19 shutdown) |
![]() The Durness Bus
The Durness Bus also operates daily services between Durness and Lairg and a Saturday service to Inverness and Thurso. A Dial-a-Bus service is available for local people and walkers. The Durness Bus generously sponsors these web pages. Most routes are closed for the duration of the COVID-19 shut-down. |
