Durness: the jewel in the north-west

Durness children need your help

photo of children by dilapidated swingsPictureThis was once something we could play on
Have you seen the battered state of the dilapidated swings and slides in the children’s play park in Durness? We badly need a safe modern play park!
The Durness Community Group (DCG) is fundraising to buy new equipment for the site in School Road, Durness. Can you help? Could you share this so friends, family, and folk who have visited and enjoyed spending time here have a chance to give even a small amount at https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/durnessplaypark
(Or cheques, payable to Durness Community Group, can be sent to: Treasurer, Durness Community Group, Village Hall, Smoo, Durness , IV27 4QA)

Welcome to Durness!
If you are a visitor you will find sandy beaches and rugged cliffs and the freshest air and water. Don’t expect entertainment (though there is a golf course, a play or concert in the village hall most months, and the mobile cinema comes occasionally) instead enjoy an escape from the confines of the city, great walking, spectacular views, and an unspoiled land. Tripadviser can show you what others have found and enjoyed.
We still have less accommodation than usual and many facilities and services are closed. This web site links to most of what is available in the area, and as things change quickly please check and book ahead.
Our community is small and our resources are stretched, so please follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code, use only designated facilities for chemical toilet waste, and do not light fires anywhere: much of Durness has SSSI status and all the land is fragile. In this wild environment vegetation that grows back in a few months can take years under the onslaught of winter winds and rain. Take only photographs, leave only footprints in the sand.
